Famicom cartridges for your phone are almost here ⊟
The Pico Cassette project, first shown off at TGS last year, is crowdfunding its first official release through the Japanese crowdfunding site Makuake. The first game up for production is… a phone version of the 1985 Famicom game Ninja Jajamaru-kun.
The Pico Cassette uses a sound signal to authenticate an account through the game app, which in effect means you plug it in and the game runs, with your data saved. It’s hardly practical, but it’s fun, and it sorta feels like owning a game cartridge. It, uh, does appear to be a minimum of $40 through the Makuake drive to actually get one, though.
